“In 2024, with the help of the pantomime group Isola di Confine, I organized a procession to place my bust of Mary, which I created at the International Center for the Arts in Monte Castello di Vibio, Italy, in the empty wooden boxes hanging across from the church in the public square. Once my virgin was placed, silence, then followed by whispers in awe, the Italian audience thanked me. In the past, Monte Castello di Vibio had many processions dedicated to the Marian cult. Through my work, inspired by an element placed in the square of the village I caught an element that in the past and partly today characterizes Monte Castello, a relationship with the sacred that once marked the rhythms of the rural community and that still characterizes the time of the ‘feast’ understood as a moment in which each individual of the community gathers with others dedicating time, work and joy to share together.”
