“Everything finds its way into my paintings, from the landscapes of Wisconsin to the foods I eat and books I read. My paintings for this show are done on jute (burlap) which I glue to stretched canvas. This coarse material makes some traditional painting techniques very difficult but I have found that it pushes me to discover new ways of applying paint. My main goal is to create something that is alive. I pursue this through the genres of portraiture, abstract painting, and landscape painting. One of the main themes in my work is the circle of life. This theme is reflected in the metamorphosis of shapes and colors as one thing becomes another thing in an endless cycle of change.”
