“I am compelled by art that is witness to the current moment while also transcending literal representation. The subtle anthropomorphism in the flowers, leaves, and limbs of these paintings imitates portraiture and figurative work but lacks their inherent specificity. The monochromatic colors add another layer of mood and meaning.
These paintings use the constructed flora as a means of examining our shared humanity. I draw on both personal and universal experiences and emotions – from the joy, love, anxiety, and exhaustion that is inherent in my role as a mother to young children, to shifts in the larger social, political, and natural environments that impact us all.”
